Despite government claims of implementing cost-cutting measures, Eid is being celebrated on a national scale across different islands
The government has invited local councils to submit proposals to host this year’s national Eid al-Adha celebrations in three selected islands. Minister Heena stated that the host islands will be chosen based on specific evaluation criteria following a review of the submissions. Despite the increasing importance of fiscal responsibility amid global economic shifts, the government remains committed to holding vibrant and grand celebrations across the country this year.

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has announced that this year’s Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on a national scale with grand festivities across three islands in the Maldives.
Responding to a journalist's question at a press conference on Sunday, Minister Heena stated that Eid will be celebrated on a grand scale in three islands across the Maldives, as in previous years. She further noted that the opportunity to submit proposals for these celebrations has been opened to all local councils.
Minister Heena stated that three islands will be selected to host the Eid celebrations following an evaluation of the proposals submitted to the Ministry.
We have decided to celebrate this year's Eid al-Adha at a national level in three islands, consistent with the practice of previous years. We have already dispatched formal invitations to all local councils across the Maldives, requesting them to submit their proposals to host these festivities. I believe today marks the deadline for those submissions. Once our team evaluates the proposals and reviews the details provided, we will select the winning islands and finalize the arrangements for the national Eid al-Adha celebrations in those three locations.Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed
Furthermore, Minister Heena stated that all Eid festivities must be conducted in accordance with established standards and regulations. The Minister added that she expects these guidelines to be followed across all inhabited islands in the Maldives throughout the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
While the government has decided to hold large-scale national celebrations for this year's Eid al-Adha across three islands, the economy is facing significant negative impacts due to the conflict arising from joint U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran. Shortages in oil and gas supplies have led to a continuous rise in the cost of goods. During its most recent press conference, the crisis committee established in response to the Middle East conflict stated that the government is implementing robust austerity measures. However, despite other nations enforcing stringent cost-cutting policies, many critics argue that the Maldivian government has failed to take any meaningful action to reduce public spending.
