ACC abruptly changes stance on corruption allegations involving Heena
Despite President Muizzu’s assertion that Heena Waleed was cleared of allegations involving the use of NSPA funds to establish MMTV, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) initially stated that the investigation was still ongoing. However, following media reports on the matter, the ACC abruptly reversed its stance on June 9, claiming the case had already been concluded, though the commission has failed to provide a clear explanation for this sudden change in position.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has reversed its stance after initially stating that the investigation into allegations involving the use of National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) funds to establish MMTV remains ongoing. This follows claims by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu that relevant authorities had already cleared Heena Waleed, the former CEO of NSPA, of any corruption in the matter.
The complaint submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleges that funds from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) were used in 2024 to establish a television station called MMTV under Maldives Media House Private Limited.
President Muizzu was questioned during a press conference regarding the appointment of Heena Waleed as the Arts Minister while such allegations were pending against her. However, the President stated that following an investigation into the matter, the relevant authorities had confirmed that she had been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Despite repeated inquiries over two days, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) initially failed to provide further details on the matter. However, on Wednesday morning, the commission finally confirmed that an investigation into corruption allegations against Heena was ongoing. Shortly after the news was published, the ACC shifted its stance, claiming that the investigation had actually been concluded on the 9th of this month.
It remains unclear why the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) abruptly shifted its stance after previously confirming that an investigation into the matter was underway. Despite numerous cases being filed with the ACC, the commission has faced criticism for significant delays in providing updates and a lack of transparency in disclosing information regarding these investigations.
