President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been accused of making a blatant false claim regarding allegations that funds from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) were used to establish MMTV. The President stated that relevant authorities had already cleared Heena Waleed, the CEO of NSPA at the time, of any corruption in the matter.
The President made these remarks during a press conference held on Monday. During the session, a journalist questioned the integrity of Heena, asking why she was appointed to a ministerial position despite facing allegations of corruption.
The journalist’s question highlighted that Heena had faced several allegations during her tenure at NSPA. These included claims that office space was leased from MMTV at an inflated price. Furthermore, the journalist noted that Heena had also faced allegations of negligence regarding the death of a minor.
In response to the question, the President stated that following an investigation into the matter, the relevant authorities have cleared Heena of any wrongdoing.
Accusations can be fabricated entirely out of lies. Regarding the claims you just made about Heena, the relevant authorities have investigated the matter and confirmed that those statements are categorically false.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
RaajjeMV reached out to the government spokesperson to seek further clarification regarding the President's remarks. When questioned about which specific institution the President was referring to when he claimed the allegations linking Heena to MMTV had been resolved, the spokesperson clarified that he was referring to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has yet to announce the conclusion of its investigation into the matter. When contacted by RaajjeMV for an update, an ACC media official stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
The complaint filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleges that funds from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) were misappropriated in 2024 to establish a television station named MMTV, under the company Maldives Media House Private Limited.
The questions directed at the President regarding Heena were linked to the MMTV case and the death of a minor. However, with neither investigation yet concluded, the President’s assertion that relevant authorities had already determined these allegations to be outright falsehoods has been exposed as an untruth.
