Major Government Initiative: National Project to Revive Traditional Heritage Commences, Training 10 Individuals from Every Island!
The National Center for Cultural Heritage has launched the "National Oral History Collection Project" to preserve Maldivian history and culture for future generations. Under this initiative, ten individuals from every island will be trained to record and safeguard the personal experiences and memories of elders, supplementing existing written records. Furthermore, the government is working to establish "Heritage Guardians" across the islands to oversee and maintain local historical information.

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has announced that the government has launched a significant national initiative titled the "National Oral History Project."
During Sunday's press conference, Heena highlighted several key initiatives being undertaken by the National Center for Cultural Heritage Research, which operates under the Ministry. She noted that the center's primary mandate involves documenting Maldivian collective memory, as well as preserving and promoting the unique characteristics of Maldivian identity and culture.
Heena stated that one of the center's most significant initiatives is the "National Project for Oral History Collection." She further noted that the primary objective of this project is to preserve and pass down the history and culture of the Maldives to future generations.

Heena stated that this project is designed to record the experiences and memories of local councils, non-governmental organizations, and private individuals across the Maldives.
Heena stated that under this project, individuals are currently being trained in every island to revive and preserve significant historical events, traditional customs, and personal experiences from various eras of the Maldives. She noted that 10 people will be trained from each island. According to Heena, their primary responsibility will be to collect and document oral histories and memories passed down through generations.
Furthermore, Heena announced that a national project is currently underway to develop "Heritage Guardians." She noted that this initiative aims to train individuals to study and document heritage history, ensuring the preservation of historical information within their respective islands. According to Heena, 10 individuals from each island will be trained under this program. She further stated that these individuals will serve as the official custodians of their island's heritage.
