Fisheries and Agriculture merged; Shiyam reappointed as Minister
In a major cabinet reshuffle aimed at streamlining governance, the President has consolidated several ministries and reduced the total number of government departments. Following these changes, 10 ministers have resigned, a move the President's Office describes as a decision to facilitate the President's vision for reform and align the administration with public sentiment. As part of the restructuring, the Ministry of Agriculture has been dissolved, with its functions now integrated under the Ministry of Fisheries.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Shiyam as the Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources.
The ceremony to present the letter of appointment to the Minister was held on Wednesday morning at the President's Office.
During the ceremony, the oath of office for the members of the Cabinet was administered by Supreme Court Justice Uz. Abdulla Hameed. Following the swearing-in, the ministers proceeded to sign the official oath of office.
On April 14, 2026, President Muizzu implemented significant changes to his cabinet.
In this regard, some ministries have been merged, effectively reducing the total number of government departments. This follows his assumption of office with a 22-member cabinet, which was the largest in the country's history.
The Ministry of Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture have been merged and rebranded as the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources. Previously, all agricultural mandates were under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare. However, that ministry was officially dissolved on Tuesday.
Furthermore, a total of 10 ministers resigned on Tuesday. The President's Office stated that these officials stepped down to pave the way for the positive changes the President intends to implement in the administration, in alignment with the public's will.
