Mayor Azim attacked during MDP protest
During an MDP protest, two individuals assaulted Male' City Mayor Adam Azim and attempted to throw him to the ground. Following the attack, the Mayor condemned the act as a cowardly tactic by the government, asserting that he would not be intimidated and remains committed to holding the administration accountable. Protesters have characterized the incident as a government-orchestrated attempt to obstruct opposition activities.

Two individuals infiltrated a protest held by the MDP on Friday night and attacked Male' City Mayor Adam Azim.
On Friday night, two individuals suddenly intercepted a protest march as it was moving along Bodurasgefaanu Magu near the Galolhu Cemetery. The pair reportedly attempted to assault Mayor Azim during the encounter.
Specifically, one of the individuals pushed the Mayor and attempted to knock him to the ground. However, other protesters intervened and restrained the two individuals before any further assault could take place.
Police arrived at the scene and began operating shortly after the incident. Protesters alleged that the attack targeting the Mayor was orchestrated by the government, claiming authorities had dispatched individuals to obstruct the opposition.
In response to the attack, the Mayor stated that such cowardly acts by the government would not intimidate them into backing down. The Mayor further asserted that they would remain steadfast in holding the government accountable.
Protesters carried placards expressing various grievances and chanted loudly for President Muizzu’s resignation. They asserted that the government has lost its mandate, noting that it secured only 30 percent of the vote in the referendum held on the 4th of this month at the government's own initiative.
The MDP has presented 12 demands to the government aimed at restoring national stability during its ongoing protests.
