The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group has requested a meeting with members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), alleging that the commission has failed to make any significant progress toward fostering an ethical society free from corruption.
The MDP made this request in a letter addressed to the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Al-Ustadh Adam Shamil, sent by Member of Parliament Mohamed Ibrahim in his capacity as the Secretary General of the party's parliamentary group.
In the letter, the member stated that the constitutional vision for the Anti-Corruption Commission is to transform Maldivian society into an ethical one, free from all acts of corruption.
However, the member stated that the MDP deeply regrets that the work carried out in the past has not come anywhere close to an adequate level.
Furthermore, the member highlighted the commission's failure to achieve its objectives, specifically noting the lack of impartial action against those involved in acts of corruption.
Furthermore, the member expressed regret over the failure to restructure state administration and strengthen institutional systems in a manner that prevents opportunities for corruption.
The MDP parliamentary group has expressed its desire to discuss these matters further. Consequently, the letter requests that a meeting with the members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) be arranged at the earliest possible opportunity.
