The 39-year-old man who sustained burn injuries during a fire on a fuel boat docked at F. Feeali remains on ventilator support, according to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The victim, a foreign male working on the oil barge, sustained burns to 60 percent of his body in the incident. He initially received medical treatment at the island's health center.
A media official from IGMH told RaajjeMV that the victim of the incident remains in critical condition and is still receiving treatment on a ventilator. No further details were disclosed.
The catastrophic fire occurred during the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The local MIFCO ice plant was completely destroyed in the incident, while two grouper fishing vessels and a sand-transporting dhoni were burned beyond repair. Additionally, a newly launched fiber vessel sustained significant damage after being caught in the blaze.
