23-year-old who was receiving treatment on a ventilator after contracting dengue fever, passes away
Ahmed Nabhan, a 23-year-old from Sh. Milandhoo, passed away this morning following severe complications from dengue fever. After receiving initial treatment at the Milandhoo Health Center and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, he was medically evacuated to Male' yesterday and placed on a ventilator as his condition deteriorated.

Ahmed Nabuhan, a 23-year-old native of Sh. Milandhoo, passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment for a severe case of Dengue fever.
According to reports from RaajjeMV, the young man initially sought medical attention at the Milandhoo Health Center. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital for further care. Following a critical decline in his health, he was medically evacuated to Malé on Sunday for advanced treatment.
Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Nabuhan was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator due to the severity of his illness. He passed away on Monday morning while receiving emergency care.
The Maldives has recently experienced a significant surge in reported Dengue cases. Information indicates that in Milandhoo alone, approximately 30 individuals were treated for the virus between November and the end of January.
In a statement released on Sunday regarding the prevalence of communicable diseases, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed that Dengue cases in March showed an increase compared to February this year. Specifically, 535 cases were reported in March, up from 428 cases in February.
The HPA further noted that while Dengue cases have risen, there has been a notable decrease in other common viral infections. Reports of common colds dropped from 25,010 cases in February to 20,761 in March. Similarly, cases of diarrhea decreased from 8,629 in February to 4,441 in March. Regarding influenza, the agency reported that out of 1,030 individuals tested so far this year, 112 have tested positive.
