Man detained for vandalizing mosque: Suspect claims prior involvement and expresses no remorse
A man arrested for vandalizing copies of the Quran and damaging electrical boards at Furqan Mosque has expressed no remorse for his actions during a court appearance, where he was ordered to be remanded for 15 days. The suspect, who has a prior criminal record for committing indecent acts in mosques and schools, confessed to the vandalism during the hearing. Citing him as a threat to public safety and noting sufficient evidence presented by the police, the court ruled to keep him in custody.

A man previously arrested and released for allegedly discarding copies of the Quran and damaging the Furqan Mosque has told the court he feels no remorse after being re-arrested for a similar offense.
The individual arrested for entering and vandalizing a mosque has been identified as Naushad Moosa, a resident of G. Male’hiya 2, 13-02, Male'. He was previously arrested on November 26, 2024, in connection with an incident at the Furqan Mosque, where he was accused of throwing copies of the Holy Quran and causing damage to the premises. However, he was later released from custody.
During that incident, copies of the Holy Quran at Masjid al-Furqan were discarded and the mosque was vandalized. The perpetrator also destroyed the electrical boards and power adapters located near the Imam’s prayer station. However, he was later released from custody.
Following his arrest on Thursday in connection with the case, the court order stated that sufficient evidence had been presented to support the allegations against him. This evidence included the initial incident report from the responding police officers, as well as the individual's prior arrest and detention records. He has been remanded in custody for 15 days. According to the court order, the detention was deemed necessary for the safety and security of the community.
In court, the defendant confessed to the crimes he is accused of. He further stated that he had committed such acts inside mosques on previous occasions and expressed no remorse for his actions.
Furthermore, he was arrested earlier in 2024 for exposing himself to a group of women inside a mosque. During the remand hearing for that case, police stated that Naushad had exposed his genitals to women inside the mosque located within the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) complex. Police also noted that he had a prior record for a similar incident involving indecent exposure at a school.
Furthermore, he was also arrested for eating in public during daylight hours in this year's Ramadan.
