Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has stated that the individual who sustained burn injuries during a fire on a fuel boat docked at F. Feeali harbor is currently being treated on a ventilator.
The victim in this incident, a 39-year-old expatriate man working on the oil barge, sustained burns to 60 percent of his body. He initially received medical treatment at the island's health center.
A media official from IGMH told RaajjeMV that the individual who sustained burn injuries in the incident is in critical condition and is currently on ventilator support. No further details were provided.
The catastrophic fire occurred during the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The MIFCO ice plant on the island was completely razed to the ground in the incident, while two grouper fishing vessels and a sand-transporting dhoni were burned beyond repair. Additionally, a newly launched fiber vessel sustained extensive damage due to the fire.
Furthermore, the fire spread to a nearby fuel station, causing damage to the fuel dispensers and various parts of the structure. The local island council estimates that the total damages resulting from the incident will exceed 20 million Rufiyaa.
