The Parliament has referred the matter of granting approval to 14 cabinet ministers appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the Government Oversight Committee for review.
The matter was referred to the relevant committee for further review during Monday's parliamentary sitting.
On April 14, 2026, President Muizzu implemented significant changes to his cabinet, which included merging several ministries to reduce the total number of government departments. Upon assuming office, the President initially formed the largest cabinet in the country's history, consisting of 22 ministers. However, following these latest structural reforms, the cabinet has now been streamlined to 15 ministers.
It has been decided that Attorney General Ahmed Usham does not require a fresh vote of confidence, as there have been no changes to his official mandate.
In the formation of the new cabinet, several former ministers have been reassigned to different portfolios. Additionally, four new members have been appointed to the cabinet for the first time. The new appointees are Heena Waleed, Geela Ali, Iruthisham Adam, and Ali Shareef.
