Government Corruption

Despite government holding a supermajority in Majlis, priority is being given to political vendettas and facilitating corruption rather than initiatives that benefit public: Kudoo

MP Mohamed Ibrahim has alleged that despite holding a supermajority in Parliament, the government is prioritizing political vendettas and corruption over public welfare. He highlighted the mismanagement of state-owned enterprises, the stagnation of housing projects, and a lack of accountability among ministers to the legislature. Furthermore, he noted that the failure to implement budgeted projects has led to widespread public discontent, creating a situation where government lawmakers are now hesitant to visit their own constituencies.

Member of Parliament for North Galolhu, Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo), has stated that despite the ruling party holding a supermajority in Parliament, the government is prioritizing political vendettas and facilitating corruption instead of pursuing initiatives that benefit the public.

Speaking on a RaajjeTV talk show, MP Kudoo stated that despite the government holding a significant majority of 85 seats in Parliament, they continue to dismiss opposition proposals concerning issues vital to the public.

MP Kudoo stated that despite discussing the critical issue of kidney transplants in the parliamentary committee, government members sought to delay the matter. He noted a recurring pattern where the government rejects bills and amendments proposed by the opposition, only to reintroduce the same measures later under the President's name. He further remarked that government members appear more focused on daily verbal attacks against the opposition than on any substantive legislative work.

Those 85 members sit there every day, doing nothing but hurling insults at us. Why can't they do something productive? Just today, I spoke to a parliamentary committee regarding kidney transplants. We held sessions throughout the entire month of Ramadan, yet look at what they are doing. Isn't this their responsibility? I stated clearly that we would not allow them to drag out the voting process like this; the work must be done here. Yet, they used their majority once again to stall and stretch the regulations further. Within five minutes of our Social Affairs Committee meeting ending, they were already back at the committee just to seek more funding. We are unable to achieve anything beyond this. I do not believe the public is blind to these actions; the evidence is clear for everyone to see today. They do nothing but criticize us. Why can't they focus on something meaningful?

Highlighting the current state of state-owned enterprises, Kudoo stated that companies such as Fenaka, MTCC, and MPL are riddled with corruption and financial embezzlement. He noted that containers have remained un-discharged at MPL for over a month and remarked that MTCC’s performance has also significantly declined. Furthermore, he pointed out that the government has failed to effectively implement even simple initiatives, such as a taxi application.

They are bringing in taxis because they are unable to fix that app. Our local IT professionals are constantly pointing this out to us. People have even started mockingly referring to it as the "Papaya App" because it simply does not work. These are not groundbreaking inventions; we aren't trying to go to the moon here. Yet, they still couldn't get it right. The situation at MTCC is the same. At MPL, containers have been sitting un-discharged for over a month. This is the state of affairs—MTCC is in shambles, and I don't think I can even begin to describe the extent of the disaster at Fenaka. This is not how you go about fixing a country. It appears to me that they are once again focused on the embezzlement of funds, looking for any possible way to dip their hands into the state treasury. I see nothing else being accomplished. Some members are only just beginning to hear the voice of the people. The ultimate, irreversible failure of this administration will remain the story of that glass tunnel.
Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo), Member of Parliament for the North Galolhu constituency.

Speaking on housing projects in the Greater Male' Area, Kudoo stated that the government is prioritizing ambitious, visionary projects over the development of Giraavaru Falhu and Gulhi Falhu. He noted that while massive investments are being funneled into sites like Fushidhiggaru Falhu, the public can clearly see the progress of bridge projects initiated by the previous administration. He further characterized the government's stubborn persistence with the Fushidhiggaru Falhu project as its greatest failure.

Kudoo accused government ministers of attempting to mislead the public rather than providing accountability during parliamentary questioning sessions. He further stated that the situation has deteriorated to the point where government members are afraid to visit islands within their own constituencies, noting that public frustration has peaked due to the failure to execute projects included in the budget. Delivering a scathing critique, Kudoo alleged that instead of listening to the concerns of the citizens, the government is preoccupied with embezzling from the state treasury.
