Concerns are growing among commuters over persistent technical issues with the card machines used in MTCC’s bus network across the Greater Male’ Area, including Male’ and Hulhumale’.
Bus card machines on many buses operating in the Greater Male' area have malfunctioned. Consequently, complaints are rising from passengers who are unable to travel if they do not possess a bank card or an alternative electronic payment method.
Commuters sharing their concerns with RaajjeMV reported issues with the bus card system, noting that payments are often not processed. They further highlighted that when card machines are out of service, passengers without cash cards are frequently told to wait for the next bus or are required to purchase a physical ticket to travel.
However, those who shared their concerns noted that the primary challenge remains the difficulty in obtaining tickets. They highlighted that tickets are only available at the main bus stops in Male' and Hulhumale' Phase 2, making the entire process significantly inconvenient.
Many argue that while technology is intended to streamline services, the prolonged failure to repair these machines is unacceptable. MTCC’s management is facing heavy public criticism due to the lack of alternative ticketing options or a convenient onboard payment system.
MTCC has not yet issued an official comment regarding this matter.
