Meekail: No word from constituency MP regarding Hulhudhoo, except for praise for President Dr. Muizzu
MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has strongly criticized the current Parliament, stating that despite the government securing a supermajority, there has been no tangible progress in the development of Addu City. He accused lawmakers of surrendering their legislative powers and emphasized the importance of electing representatives in the upcoming local council elections who will genuinely advocate for the rights of the people.

Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has criticized Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, stating that the lawmaker has failed to advocate for his constituency's development in Parliament. Meekail remarked that Shahid’s contributions have been limited to praising President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s instructions and expressing subservience to the President.
Meekail made these remarks while addressing the "Ummeedheggai" rally hosted by the MDP in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo, Addu City.
Speaking at the gathering, Meekail questioned whether voters should elect representatives from a party that does not believe in the decentralized administration of islands in the upcoming local council elections. He noted that while there are loud calls to vote for government candidates, these same individuals traveled to the islands during the 2023 presidential election campaign, criticizing the then-administration and seeking the opportunity to form a new government through the people's vote.
Furthermore, Meekail stated that six months after the change of government, officials returned to the islands and intimidated the public by claiming that the administration could not function, nor could bridge and road projects proceed, without a parliamentary majority. He noted that despite the people granting them their preferred representatives and a supermajority in Parliament, no progress has been seen in Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, or the rest of Addu City, adding that the government has failed to deliver on its promises.
Nevertheless, it saddens me to speak this way about the institution I belong to, especially regarding a recent session of the People’s Majlis, where the government holds a majority. However, I have said it before and I will say it again: this is a parliament of the ignorant. Truly, it is a parliament of the ignorant. There is no other group of people who have clipped their own wings just to confine themselves to a tiny cage. It is regrettable that a representative from this very island, Hulhudhoo, sits in that Majlis. Yet, we see no advocacy and hear no word on behalf of Hulhudhoo; there is nothing beyond following the instructions of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and offering him absolute subservience.Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency
Meekail stated that in the upcoming election, the public must decide whether to elect a council that remains "deaf, dumb, and blind," similar to the current parliament. He further emphasized that the affairs of Hulhudhoo should be determined by a council elected by its own residents, asserting that he does not believe such decisions should be dictated by "Dhimyaath."
