By merging two elections, Muizzu is attempting to transform Maldivian governance system into a monarchy: Maleeh
Maleeh Jamal has accused the government’s efforts to synchronize presidential and parliamentary elections of being a deceptive attempt to undermine the Constitution under the guise of cost-cutting. He argued that such a change would consolidate the three branches of state power and dismantle the Maldives' democratic system, noting that this proposal was notably absent from the presidential manifesto. Consequently, Maleeh urged the government to focus on fulfilling its existing pledges to the public rather than holding a referendum during the current economic downturn.

PNF Secretary General Maleeh Jamaal has alleged that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s move to consolidate two elections is an attempt to transform the Maldives' system of government into a monarchy.
Maleeh stated that, under the current constitutional framework, it is legally impossible to shorten the parliamentary term and hold presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously through a referendum. He noted that such a move would undermine the entire constitutional authority and dismantle the fundamental constitutional principles upon which the document was built.
Article 4 of the Constitution addresses the power of the people even before mentioning the President. Why was the people's power prioritized in this manner? What exactly is this power? It is the right to vote—the fundamental act of going to the polls. The entire concept and philosophy of the Constitution was to steer the Maldives toward an independent, democratic nation with a clear separation of powers. Contrary to this vision, the "dictator" Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is attempting to transform the Maldives into a kingdom. If this referendum succeeds, the current structure of power—the legislative authority of the Parliament, the executive authority of the President, and the independence of the Judiciary—will cease to exist as intended. Instead, if this passes, the Maldives will be governed by three different powers: Muizzu as one, Sajidha as another, and Falah as the third. In reality, Sajidha and Muizzu represent a single unit. Therefore, this is an attempt to consolidate the Parliament and the Executive branch under the President’s singular control.PNF Secretary General Maleeh Jamaal
Maleeh noted that while a massive "book of lies" was presented for the presidential election, not a single page of this 500-page manifesto contained any mention of holding the two elections simultaneously.
Maleeh stated that the country is currently being managed like a private corporation in the middle of a presidential term, asserting that the People's Majlis has been effectively paralyzed. He further noted that the Maldives' economy has completely collapsed, charging that "Dictator Muizzu" has failed to honor any of his pledges to the citizens, while pointing out that petrol prices have now risen above one dollar.
