Power outages have been reported across a large area of Nolhivaram in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
Residents of the island informed RaajjeMV that the power outage began around 3:00 PM on Friday and has yet to be restored, leaving the entire community in darkness throughout Friday night. One resident noted that while electricity was briefly restored to some areas on Saturday morning, the power has since gone out again.
Furthermore, he noted that power outages during Ramadan cause significant hardship. He added that sudden power interruptions also lead to the damage of electronic appliances, emphasizing that the burden of these losses falls entirely on the citizens.
With the restoration time for power in Nolhivaram—a community of approximately 1,900 residents—still uncertain, Council President Yoosuf Moosa stated that a cable fault has caused a widespread blackout across a large portion of the island. He noted that Fenaka Corporation is currently working to repair the damage. However, he added that the exact nature of the cable failure remains unidentified.
Fenaka Corporation was unavailable for comment regarding this matter.
