Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that a significant portion of the public desires a change in government, noting that citizens are deeply dissatisfied with the current administration.
Following a door-to-door campaign event in the South Maafannu constituency, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim stated that residents are openly sharing the reasons behind their growing discontent during these meetings. According to the Mayor, citizens have raised numerous grievances, ranging from difficulties in accessing Aasandha health insurance and essential medications to the rising cost of living, expressing a sentiment that no public services are currently functioning effectively.
Azim stated that during his visits to various parts of Male', residents expressed significant concern over the government's interference and mismanagement of their housing plots, viewing it as a major issue.
They have deliberately sabotaged this program to make the public suffer by intentionally withholding those land plots. Had they genuinely approached the housing issue with good intentions, they would not have commenced the reclamation of the area known as Rasmale' today. We very clearly requested the President to halt that project and instead prioritize the reclamation of areas connected to Malé via the bridge. Furthermore, there are areas already reclaimed by the MDP administration. A significant portion of Hulhumalé Phase 3 has been reclaimed, and the reclamation of Gulhifalhu was already complete. At that time, approximately 80 percent of Giraavarufalhu had also been reclaimed.Male' City Mayor Adam Azim
Azim stated that if the MDP's housing policy had been implemented as planned, the residents of Malé would not have to endure such hardships. He further noted that the public now firmly believes the government intentionally stalled these efforts to cause them distress. Azim called upon the citizens to take a stand and express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box by voting for MDP candidates.
Azim stated that as the administration reaches its two-and-a-half-year mark, the public increasingly recognizes that no meaningful progress has been made to ease their lives. He emphasized that the upcoming election serves as a vital opportunity for citizens to voice their disapproval of the government’s conduct and to hold them accountable for what he described as a consistent pattern of dishonesty toward the people.
