The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has distributed thousands of leaflets across various areas of Male' to raise public awareness regarding the proposal to hold presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently.
This initiative is part of the party's efforts to inform the public regarding the upcoming referendum scheduled for April 4th.
The leaflets were distributed on Tuesday at two locations in Malé during the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) "No to Merging Elections" pickup rally. MDP teams handed out the materials to members of the public gathered near the Villimale' Ferry Terminal and the Local Market area.
The MDP stated that the primary objective of distributing these leaflets is to raise public awareness regarding the government's deceptive attempts to consolidate two elections and the potential negative consequences of such a move. Furthermore, the leaflets detail the specific reasons why citizens should vote "no" in the upcoming referendum.
Furthermore, the leaflet includes a sample ballot paper to familiarize the public with its layout ahead of election day. It also provides detailed instructions on how to mark the ballot and outlines the procedures for the voting process.
This activity is part of a series of efforts launched by the MDP to oppose the synchronization of elections. The party stated that further public awareness activities will continue across Male' and the atolls in the coming days.
