Former MDP Chairperson Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated that fostering a culture where employees simply "clock in" at the office before returning home is the greatest disservice that can be done to a nation.
He made these remarks while speaking at an MDP rally held in K. Maafushi on Saturday night.
Mariya stated that President Muizzu is currently attempting to subjugate the people. In contrast, she noted that the MDP worked towards empowering citizens and enabling them to become self-sufficient.
Mariya described the current administration's practice of allowing numerous political appointees to simply clock in and out of the office without performing any actual work as a trend that is diminishing the nation's productivity. She further stated that this behavior is steering the country in the wrong direction. Mariya warned that as public dissatisfaction with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu grows due to these issues, the situation will deteriorate to a point where no viable industries remain for the workforce to turn to.
"During former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, the victims of injustice were primarily political rivals. However, since President Muizzu took office, I have visited many islands and seen a different reality. The fishing industry has been decimated; the entire sector has been destroyed. The ultimate goal seems to be teaching the younger generation to simply cast their vote and return home without further engagement," Mariya said.
Mariya stated that Maafushi has always aimed for self-reliance, asserting that its residents will not be subservient to any government. She further emphasized that to prevent the Maldives from heading toward ruin, it is essential to vote for the MDP in the upcoming local council and Women's Development Committee elections.
