Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament and former MDP Chairperson Moosa Manik (Reeko Moosa) has stated that synchronizing elections would provide the government an opportunity to significantly undermine fundamental rights and freedoms.
Moosa made these remarks while speaking at an event organized by the MDP on Friday.
"The most important thing is to invalidate this vote. We must cast a 'no' vote," Moosa said.
He stated that since this administration took office, freedom of expression has been restricted, and that these changes were implemented without seeking the public's consent through a referendum. Furthermore, Moosa asserted that the government’s decision to ensure members of parliament lose their seats if they fail to follow party lines was a deliberate move to undermine the power of the people.
