Driver involved in fatal accident of 16-year-old released from custody
The Criminal Court has released a 19-year-old man under specific conditions following a fatal accident on the Sinamalé Bridge that claimed the life of a 16-year-old. The suspect, who was driving without a valid license at the time of the collision, was released after police raised no objections, citing his own injuries and his commitment to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. During the hearing, the youth expressed remorse for the incident, maintaining that the tragedy was not intentional.

The individual operating the motorcycle in the fatal high-speed accident near the Sinamale' Bridge lights late Wednesday night, which resulted in the death of a 16-year-old, has been released from custody.
The incident occurred near the Sinamale' Bridge traffic lights on the Male' side at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Wednesday night. The accident took place when a speeding motorcycle lost control. The motorcycle was operated by a 19-year-old male who did not possess a valid driving license. A 16-year-old passenger, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, was killed in the accident.
Mohamed Aadhin Arif, a native of R. Inguraidhoo, requested to be released under conditions during his remand hearing at the Criminal Court on Thursday. According to the court order, the defendant sought a conditional release, admitting that the incident occurred but asserting that it was not intentional. He further stated that the accident took place while he and a friend were traveling together on a motorcycle. Expressing his remorse, he told the court that he deeply regretted the occurrence of the incident.
Furthermore, the defense requested his release under stringent conditions, citing the circumstances of the case. In response, the police stated they had no objection to his release, provided he adheres to strict conditions and cooperates fully with the investigation, while also taking into account the injuries sustained by the suspect. In light of these considerations, the court has decided to release him today subject to specific conditions.
The court further noted that the police reserve the right to re-arrest the individual should they violate any of the conditions stipulated for the duration of their release.
