Youth arrested on suspicion of attacking a pedestrian with a sharp-edged weapon in Male'
Ali Shamail, a resident of S. Maradhoo, has been remanded in custody for an additional five days following his arrest under a court order for allegedly stabbing an expatriate near the Maafannu Gadi Buru. The incident, which occurred on the 8th of this month, has led to charges of assault and possession of a sharp weapon, and while the police investigation continues, authorities have presented witness statements and evidence to the court linking the suspect—who has a prior criminal record—to the attack.

The Criminal Court has ordered the remand of a young man accused of attacking an expatriate walking near the Male' Gadi Buru.
The suspect arrested in connection with this case has been identified as 24-year-old Ali Shamail, a native of Maradhoo, Addu City.
Police stated that a report was filed regarding an incident on the 8th of this month, where a foreign national walking near the Maafannu Clock Tower was attacked with a sharp object. Shamail was arrested under a court order on the 24th of this month in connection with the case.
Shamail has been accused of assault and possession of a sharp weapon. The court has ordered him to be remanded in a custodial prison for a period of five days.
According to the court order, sufficient evidence has been presented to establish a reasonable suspicion against the individual for the alleged crime. The evidence submitted includes the victim's statement, a photo lineup, the police incident report, and the suspect's criminal record.
Furthermore, police informed the court that the individual had attacked an expatriate with a sharp object. While the suspect has a prior criminal record, he has requested the court for the opportunity to appoint legal counsel.
The police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
