Film star Nimal passes away
62-year-old Nimal has passed away while undergoing treatment at IGMH, where he had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke in late December.

Renowned Maldivian actor and director Ahmed Nimal has passed away.
Nimal, 62, passed away while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). He had been receiving medical care at IGMH since late December after suffering a stroke.
Nimal first entered the film industry in 1984. He made his acting debut before the public in the Maldivian feature film "Nufooz." Following his acting debut, Nimal ventured into filmmaking in 1993. He marked his directorial debut with the film "Sitee."
Nimal’s extensive directorial portfolio includes notable films such as "Shakku", "Sababu", "Udaas", "Zalzalaa 1", "Zalzalaa 2", "Hilihila", "Hulhevi Handhu", "Dharinnattakaa", "Handhu Keytha", "Hama Himeyn", "Hiyani", "Vaa Loabi Egeynama", and "Iru Ossumun".
Among the films Nimal has starred in, notable titles such as "Yoosuf", "Kanbulo", "Sitee", "Veeraana", "Niuma", and "Nufooz" have earned significant acclaim and popularity among audiences.
Nimal gained widespread recognition among Maldivians primarily through his roles in popular drama series such as "Salhi Baisa". His performances in these series earned him significant acclaim from audiences. He is particularly remembered for portraying a diverse range of characters, including "Birukuda Ali" or the fearless Ali, the "Mussandhi Ali" or the wealthy Ali, the "Naazuku Ali" or the delicate Ali, and the "Ishgee Ali" or romantic Ali.
Nimal, a highly respected figure who contributed extensively to the film industry, was widely popular within the field. In 1991, he was honored with the National Award of Recognition for his significant contributions. Following the news of his passing, numerous professionals from the film industry have been expressing their condolences to his family.
