Decision made not to place ballot boxes in any foreign countries; re-registration period opens
The re-registration deadline for the upcoming elections is set for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 25. Notably, several locations that traditionally hosted polling stations will not have them this time, including various resorts with large local workforces, as well as Malaysia and Sri Lanka, which are home to significant Maldivian populations.

The Elections Commission has opened the re-registration window for voters whose ballot secrecy may be compromised, as well as for those registered to vote in industrial islands and overseas locations.
In two separate announcements issued on Tuesday, the Elections Commission (EC) released the list of locations where ballot boxes will no longer be stationed. According to the EC, the decision includes 28 resorts, as well as Hulhule, Thilafushi, and Gaafu Dhaalu Kaadedhdhoo. Additionally, ballot boxes will not be placed in Malaysia or Sri Lanka.
The Elections Commission (EC) stated that this decision was made because an insufficient number of people had registered to vote in those locations.
However, the Elections Commission has now opened the re-registration process for individuals previously registered at those locations. The deadline for re-registration is 1:30 PM on Thursday, February 25.
Furthermore, the Elections Commission (EC) has publicized the details of individuals whose vote secrecy was compromised and has granted them the opportunity to re-register. The EC stated that these individuals have until 1:30 PM this Thursday to complete their re-registration.
These crucial elections are scheduled to take place on April 4th. Alongside the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections, a referendum will also be held on that day to gather public opinion on synchronizing presidential and parliamentary elections.
By the time the re-registration deadline for the upcoming election expired last Sunday, a total of 25,454 individuals had submitted their applications. Notably, ballot boxes will not be stationed in several locations that have traditionally hosted them in previous elections. These include several resorts with large Maldivian workforces, as well as Malaysia and Sri Lanka, both of which are home to significant Maldivian expatriate populations.
