WAMCO employees yet to receive Ramadan allowance, staff voice growing concern
Amidst growing concerns over delayed Ramadan bonuses and salary payments for Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) employees, it has emerged that the company has failed to deposit employee pension contributions for over a year. While the utility faces a severe financial crisis and the threat of insolvency, allegations have surfaced that the company continues to provide high-paying positions to numerous individuals for political purposes.

Employees of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) have reported that some staff members have not yet received their mandatory Ramadan allowance.
An employee of the company informed RaajjeMV that they have yet to receive the mandatory MVR 3,000 Ramadan allowance, leading to widespread grievances among the staff. The employee further noted that the Human Resources department has not specified a date for the disbursement, despite repeated assurances that the payment would be made.
Furthermore, the employee stated that the Ramadan allowance was credited to the accounts of some staff members on February 17th.
While some employees of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) have reported that they have not received their Ramadan allowance, concerns have also surfaced regarding significant delays in salary payments. Staff noted that their salaries for January were only disbursed after the 5th of February.
A senior official at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that several expatriate employees have yet to receive their salaries. The official noted that even last month, wages were only paid after the 20th, and further alleged that some expatriate workers are being intimidated and warned not to speak out about the matter.
Addressing management's allegations that companies are failing to settle their dues with WAMCO, he stated that the corporation receives significant daily cash inflows and that businesses are indeed paying their bills. He further noted that while some companies occasionally experience delays in making payments, they do ultimately settle their outstanding invoices.
He stated that this was merely an excuse and did not represent the actual issue. He noted that numerous political appointments have already been made to the detriment of the company, involving individuals who simply clock in and return home. Furthermore, he remarked that some employees spend their time at the office playing cards, video games, and engaging in various other recreational activities.
However, he noted that the salaries of political appointees are several times higher than those of the company's regular staff, and that these officials face no issues regarding their pay. He further stated that they receive their salaries even before the start of the month and were also granted their Ramadan allowance ahead of schedule.
Highlighting the dire state of WAMCO, he noted that if the current trend continues, services will soon be disrupted and the company will face total bankruptcy. He further stated that the corporation is already operating at a loss.
Amidst mounting concerns regarding the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), it has emerged that the company has failed to remit pension contributions for over a year, despite deducting the funds from employees' salaries.
WAMCO has not yet been available to provide an official comment regarding these issues.
