If the Constitution is to be amended with sincere intentions, the priority should be to reform it in a manner that ensures the independence of JSC: Faisal
Speaking at a rally in Fuvahmulah, Faisal stated that lawmakers have lost the opportunity to advocate for the rights of the nation and its citizens, while further noting a visible decline in judicial independence. Consequently, he urged the public to vote for the MDP in the upcoming elections to uphold the Constitution and protect the decentralized system of governance.

Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that if the Constitution is to be amended with sincere intentions, the priority should be to reform it in a manner that ensures the independence of the Judicial Service Commission.
Faisal made these remarks while speaking at the MDP’s "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally held in Fuvahmulah.
Faisal stated that since this administration took office, its sole focus has been on amending the Constitution under various pretexts. He further urged that any constitutional reforms must include changes that command the trust and confidence of the public.
Faisal stated that the government's first priority was to introduce a constitutional amendment designed to undermine the authority of the people's representatives in Parliament. He noted that although these members are mandated to oversee the government and hold it accountable, their ability to advocate for the rights of the nation and its citizens has been completely stripped away.
Noting that the current system undermines the independence of the judiciary, Faisal stated that public confidence in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) can only be restored if it is reconstituted in a manner that reduces presidential influence. Faisal further asserted that the government has lost the public's trust due to its current actions.
"Citizens must reflect on the purpose behind these constitutional amendments. It is very clear how we obtained this Constitution; it was the result of immense struggle and many had to endure imprisonment for it. The legislative power must precede the executive, followed by the judiciary," Faisal said.
Faisal stated that the benefits of the decentralization system, established under Article 230 of the Constitution, have been evident across Maldivian islands over the past few years. He noted that this system has significantly expanded opportunities to address public needs and foster community progress. He urged the public to vote for the MDP in the upcoming council elections to uphold constitutional authority and safeguard the decentralization framework.
