Authorities sideline police officer investigating case involving theft of MVR 2 million worth of sea cucumbers from a Chinese national, following allegations of the officer's own involvement
The owner of sea cucumbers valued at MVR 2 million, allegedly stolen by a police officer, has accused the police of intentionally withholding the goods instead of returning them. Despite the owner's claims, the police issued a public notice on February 9th to sell the stock at auction, categorizing the items as unclaimed property with unverified ownership.

The investigating officer (IO) assigned to the case involving the alleged embezzlement of sea cucumbers valued at MVR 2 million from a warehouse in K. Thilafushi has been sidelined following the exposure of the incident.
In a message sent to the media regarding this case, the police stated that the officer implicated in the alleged embezzlement of sea cucumbers valued at MVR 2 million from a warehouse in K. Thilafushi has been relieved of his duties as an investigation officer.
Police stated that while the criminal investigation into the case reported on December 31, 2025, is ongoing, the Professional Standards Command is also conducting an administrative inquiry regarding the officer involved.
The embezzlement of the sea cucumbers came to light on December 29, 2025, after the items were fraudulently relocated to another site by deceiving the rightful owner. Following a court-authorized search, police seized the goods, which had been transported from Thilafushi to Male' and stored in two separate residences in the capital.
