Authorities have ordered the removal of vehicles parked at the Tsunami Monument area to make way for the redevelopment of the site.
In a post on X, the police have requested that all vehicles parked in the Tsunami Monument area be removed and the site cleared by 6:00 PM on February 9, 2026. This request is to facilitate the redevelopment of the Tsunami Monument park as part of the Male' Landscaping Project.
The police have also released a map alongside the announcement. According to the map, the order to remove vehicles applies to the designated parking zones located north of the Tsunami Monument area.
The order to clear vehicles for the redevelopment of Tsunami Monument Park comes at a time when the site has fallen into a significant state of disrepair. Originally located at the Lonuziyaaraiykolhu area of Male', the monument was relocated to the city's western harbor during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration to make way for the construction of the Sinamale' Bridge.
During President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Housing Minister, the relocation and maintenance of the Tsunami Monument were managed directly by the Ministry. Similarly, during his subsequent term as Mayor, the site remained under the care and supervision of the City Council.
