Current government's "Greater Addu" policy is a trap similar to the "India Out" campaign, says Mayor Nizar.
Nizar stated that President Muizzu, unable to accept Addu’s status as a unified city, has directly overseen its dismantling following high-level consultations. He further questioned whether those promoting the "Greater Addu" concept truly understand its implications, suggesting the term is being misused by those responsible for the city's division.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has characterized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s "Greater Addu" policy as a deceptive trap, likening it to the "India Out" campaign.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, a native of Addu Feydhoo, has shared a poster featuring the slogan "Greater Addu."
Responding to the post, Mayor Nizar stated that the status of Addu as a unified city could not be tolerated, and that it had been dismantled under the direct consultation of President Muizzu. He further questioned whether those advocating for "The Greater Addu" truly understood the meaning of the term.
Furthermore, Nizar characterized the "Greater Addu" policy as a deceptive trap, likening it to the "India Out" campaign. He also urged the public not to fall for such fabrications.
Nizar's remarks follow a referendum conducted by the current administration last year to determine whether Addu City Council should remain a single administrative entity. Following the vote, Addu City Council now comprises Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and Feydhoo. Meanwhile, Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo have been designated as two separate administrative islands.
Nizar has previously criticized the current administration for stalling the development of Addu City. He noted that major development projects in the region have seen no progress to date. Furthermore, he highlighted that even essential services, such as electricity, are not being provided reliably.
Furthermore, Nizar responded to claims that the installation of the Google cable in Addu would lead to the city's development. He stated that the government has not shared any information regarding the project with the council, leaving them in the dark about its progress and details.
Nizar stated that although a large plot of land in Hithadhoo was allocated for the cable connection and a landing station has been constructed on the site, the only ongoing activity there is security monitoring. He noted that the council receives no revenue from the land and expressed concern that there is no visible progress for the public or for the overall development of Addu. He further alleged that the government is attempting to significantly mislead the public regarding this project.
