Presidential Address 2026: MDP members begin protest
Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla ordered Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem and Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad to leave the chamber after naming them for disorderly conduct. Although the Speaker initially moved to name Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa as well, he ultimately refrained from doing so.

The names of several members from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) were called out for order after they began protesting during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s delivery of the Presidential Address.
As President Muizzu began delivering the Presidential Address, members of the MDP commenced a protest within the parliamentary chambers. The members disrupted the proceedings by blowing whistles to create noise. Following this, members held up placards inscribed with various slogans and continued their protest directly in front of President Muizzu.
Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, presiding over the session, named South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem and Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, ordering them to leave the chamber. Following this, the Speaker attempted to name Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa. However, the order was ultimately not issued.
Members of the MDP staged a protest in Parliament, accusing President Muizzu of including falsehoods in his presidential address. They noted that despite the numerous claims and promises made in the 2025 presidential address, none have been fulfilled to date.
