President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that, starting next March, he will hold weekly one-hour press briefings every Monday.
Delivering the Presidential Address on Thursday, President Muizzu stated his commitment to maintaining a close relationship with the media. To further strengthen these ties, he announced that starting in March, he will hold weekly meetings with journalists every Monday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
To further strengthen my close relationship with the media, I am pleased to announce that starting this March, I will personally provide information to the press through regular weekly briefings. God willing, these sessions will be held every Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. I intend to maintain this schedule consistently, provided there are no official travels, public holidays, or unforeseen circumstances that require a change to the program.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
Furthermore, President Muizzu announced that starting in March, every cabinet minister will hold a weekly one-hour press briefing to meet with journalists. The President added that the schedule for these meetings will be regularly released by the President's Office.
While President Muizzu has announced that he will hold hour-long weekly press briefings every Monday starting this March, he had previously pledged during a press forum at the Social Centre on November 13, 2023—while still President-elect—that citizens would not need to file Right to Information (RTI) requests to obtain information. Despite these assurances, most inquiries currently remain unanswered without the submission of formal RTI requests.
More than two years into President Muizzu's administration, he has held only two formal press conferences with the media. The first was conducted on December 5, 2023, followed by a press conference held on World Press Freedom Day in 2025 to set a record. Since then, the President has not held any further meetings with journalists to date.
