Amid earlier allegations of intimidation by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, CEO of ‘Adhadhu News’, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has received a new death threat from an anonymous Facebook account, warning him against mocking the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

According to a report published by Adhadhu, the threat originated from a Facebook profile using the name “Yousuf Aas”. The message was sent via Facebook Messenger at 3:30am on February 1 and explicitly warned Fiyaz that he would be killed if he continued to criticize or mock PNC.

This is not the first time Fiyaz has been subjected to such threats. Since the incumbent assumed office, he has been confronted and threatened on the streets as well. In addition to this, Fiyaz has previously stated that President Muizzu personally contacted him by telephone to issue threats and intimidate him.

The incident reflects a broader pattern of escalating hostility toward media professionals. Recently, Ahmed Naif, President of the Maldives Journalist Association (MJA), and Amir Saleem, Broadcast Visual Director at RaajjeTV, also received death threats through social media. Despite these reports, there has reportedly been no significant progress in investigating any of these cases.

As death threats against journalists and government critics continue to increase, public concern is mounting over the Maldives Police Service’s (MPS) perceived failure to properly investigate these incidents and hold those responsible accountable. Maldives has a grim history of such threats escalating into brutal attacks and the targeted killings of journalists, raising serious alarm over the current safety and security of the press.
