621 ballot boxes set for local council, WDC elections
The Maldives will establish 621 ballot boxes for local council and WDC elections on 4 April 2026, with 321 boxes in atolls and 240 in the GMR. Additional boxes will be placed at industrial islands, prisons, resorts, and abroad. A total of 294,937 eligible voters comprising 144,527 women and 150,410 men will select members for 225 constituencies.

The Elections Commission of Maldives (EC) has officially released information on the ballot boxes to be used for the upcoming Local Council Elections and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) Elections.
The commission stated that details including ballot box numbers, codes, names, designated voting areas, and specific locations for the elections scheduled for 4 April 2026, are now publicly available.
A total of 621 ballot boxes will be established for the elections. This includes 321 boxes across the administrative atolls. To facilitate voting for residents of the atolls and the cities of Kulhudhuffushi, Fuvahmulah, Thinadhoo, and Addu living in the Greater Malé Region (GMR), 240 ballot boxes will be stationed across Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villimalé.
In addition to this, the commission has arranged three ballot boxes at industrial islands, five boxes in prison facilities, 50 boxes in tourist resorts, and two boxes abroad.
These elections will select members for Local Councils and Women’s Development Committees across 225 constituencies.
A total of 294,937 individuals are eligible to vote in the 2026 local council and WDC Elections, comprising 144,527 women and 150,410 men.
