Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced plans to meet with Former President Mohamed Nasheed in the near future to discuss efforts aimed at securing victory for the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the upcoming Local Council Elections.
The announcement was made during Solih’s address to MDP members in Kudahuvadhoo on Monday, a part of his ongoing tour which also included a visit to Hirilandhoo island of Thaa atoll.
In his speech to the party members in Kudahuvadhoo, Solih called for all factions within MDP to come together and work collaboratively towards the party’s success in the upcoming elections, following the completion of the primary elections. He shed light on the significance of unity, stating that such efforts could lead to significant positive outcomes across all constituencies.
Solih reassured MDP supporters that he was committed to putting every effort into strengthening the party’s unity in the lead-up to the elections. He went on to confirm that discussions with Nasheed were already taking place and after the conclusion of his current tour, he would meet with Nasheed.
Solih added that the public would soon witness the two leaders working together, signaling a new phase of cooperation.
MDP Kudahuvadhoo constituency President Shaathir, who attended the event, expressed that the former president’s speech had reignited hope among MDP members. He believes that the joint efforts of Solih and Nasheed will provide a major boost to the party’s chances of winning future elections.
Further, Shaathir noted that MDP members in the Kudahuvadhoo constituency warmly welcomed Solih’s initiative to unite the party and foster cooperation between its factions.
