Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his congratulations to MP for Hanimaadhoo constituency Abdul Ghafoor Moosa following his election as the interim Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ to convey is message, Solih offered heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Ghafoor on his election as the party’s interim Chairperson.

The former president expressed full confidence in Ghafoor’s leadership and stated his belief that Ghafoor will succeed in guiding the party forward during this crucial period.

Solih’s message on ‘X’ reflected his warm congratulations and his confidence in Ghafoor’s ability to lead the party effectively during this critical time.

During MDP’s National Congress meeting held on Monday night, Ilham Ahmed nominated Ghafoor for the interim Chairperson position.

Ghafoor was elected with 65 votes out of the 66 members present at the congress meeting, and he has since expressed gratitude to the members who supported him.

Ghafoor is the longest-serving member of MDP’s Parliamentary Group and has also served for a significant period in the People’s Majlis.

The chairperson position became vacant following the resignation of former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail.
