Residents of Feydhoo have launched a petition to express no confidence in Ibrahim “IB” Didi, the parliamentary representative for Feydhoo constituency in Addu City.

The move follows a public motorcycle rally celebrating the outcome of a recent referendum, in which Feydhoo residents voted overwhelmingly to remain under the administration of the Addu City Council. The referendum, held on October 25, was initiated to determine whether Feydhoo should separate from Addu City and form its own council.

According to residents leading the petition, the initiative reflects growing dissatisfaction with Didi’s role in supporting Feydhoo’s separation. Many accuse him of promoting a divisive agenda that disregarded the will of the majority, resulting in a significant loss of public trust.

Community participation in the petition drive has been described as robust, with residents actively gathering signatures across the constituency. Once complete, the petition is expected to be submitted to the People’s Majlis.

In the referendum, 1,782 residents voted against forming an independent council, while 615 supported the move, a decisive outcome that underscored Feydhoo’s preference to remain part of Addu City’s unified governance structure.

The petition marks a rare instance of organized public dissent against a sitting parliamentarian, highlighting deepening frustration over political representation and accountability in local governance.
