The Maldivian national who sustained severe injuries in Sunday’s landing craft capsize near Malé City has died while receiving treatment.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Ali Aflah Abdulla of Dilbahaaruge in Gemanafushi island of Gaaf Alif atoll. He was among six people hospitalized following the incident, which occurred near the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) port area on Sunday evening.

A foreign national injured in the same incident, identified as 32-year-old Bangladeshi Masud Hossain, also succumbed to his injuries earlier.

According to police, all 14 individuals aboard the vessel at the time of the capsize have been accounted for.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns over maritime safety and the adequacy of safety protocols for vessels operating in congested harbor zones.
