Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih affirmed that the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) belongs to everyone and emphasized the need to pass its leadership to the next generation.
He made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV's "Fala Surukhee" programme on Thursday night.
The former president said that MDP has gained experience over the past 20 years, adding that changes need to be made to the party's internal management. Solih stressed that the opportunity for autocratic rule has been eradicated, and it has become clear today that no party can be considered as belonging to just one person.
Highlighting that the next step is to work on passing the party to future generations, the former president stated that at this point, MDP is not an autocratic party.
Solih further emphasized that giving opportunities to the next generation to advance the party is something that needs to be done presently.
The former president said that rather than centering around a single leader, MDP has advanced by focusing on serving individuals, and he emphasized that this approach should continue moving forward.
Solih emphasized the significance of preparing the younger generation for leadership roles to secure the party’s future, adding that the return of former members from The Democrats presents an ideal opportunity to advance this effort.
