Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that Mohamed Umar “MU” Manik, one of the pioneers of Maldivian tourism and the Chairman of Universal Enterprises, who passed away on Saturday morning while receiving treatment in Singapore, was a person who provided numerous services to Maldivians not only in tourism but also in the social sector.

In a condolence message following the passing of Mohamed Umar Manik, ex-president Solih expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of the renowned figure. MU Manik, a recipient of the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Muleege Dynasty (ODRMD), was hailed as a pioneer in the introduction and modernization of tourism in the Maldives. The former president extended his heartfelt condolences to MU Manik’s family, sharing in their grief during this difficult time.

Solih highlighted that MU Manik was not only a dedicated servant who contributed greatly to the advancement of the tourism industry but also served the Maldivian state for more than 19 years.

Further, Solih noted that MU Manik was a person who continued to provide numerous services to the nation in the social sector as well. He was particularly generous in providing opportunities in the health sector, education sector, and higher education, helping to build human capacity by assisting many people.

MU Manik, Chairman of Universal Enterprises, one of the largest companies in Maldivian tourism, passed away at the age of 78 following a decline in his health. He had been receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore since late July. He is survived by his wife and two children.
