Following the fifth consecutive defeat of the Maldives national football team, national coach Ali Suzain has resigned from his position.
Suzain stepped down from the position on Tuesday.
The Maldives also lost their second match in the FIFA World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers against Timor-Leste in an away game on Tuesday. This marks the fifth consecutive defeat for the Maldives national football team.
The Maldives had previously lost matches against Singapore, India, Philippines, and Bangladesh.
After the match against Timor-Leste, Coach Suzain revealed to journalists that he had resigned from the position of national coach.
Following the game, Suzain acknowledged the recent result as a very poor outcome and extended his apologies to the Maldivian football community.
Suzain stated that it was a great honor to work with the national team while Maldivian football was in a difficult situation. He also expressed gratitude to the players, officials, and management who supported him during his tenure as coach.
Suzain took over the national team after the contract of the previous coach, Francesco Moriero, expired. Suzain has been in the position of national coach for about two years.
