MP for South Fuvahmulah constituency Ibrahim Hussain who represents the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) in the People’s Majlis, has denied allegations that he exerted influence to take disciplinary action against a traffic police officer.
However, speaking to RaajjeMV, MP Ibrahim brushed off these claims, saying it was an outright lie. However, he did not provide further details. Ibrahim also did not respond to a question about whether a traffic police officer had stopped him on the road and advised against riding a motorcycle while wearing headphones.
RaajjeMV understands that that a traffic police officer had stopped Ibrahim and advised him against riding a motorcycle while wearing headphones on the road. The source revealed that disciplinary action was taken against the police officer due to the lawmaker’s influence, simply for carrying out his duties and advising him against wearing headphones while operating a motorcycle. The source also noted that the lawmaker expressed dissatisfaction with the advice and even issued threats at the time.
The source revealed that although the police officer was working to monitor road traffic, he has now been removed from the position and transferred to the section that investigates traffic cases.
Regarding the case, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) told RaajjeMV that in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Professional Standards Command, a police officer working in traffic police has been relieved of his previous responsibilities and assigned new duties.
However, the police have denied these allegations, stating that it was not done due to the influence of a PNC-affiliated lawmaker.
