President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has voiced his anger over the submission of cases involving distributed projects and the Fuvahmulah City water crisis to relevant authorities for investigation.
Speaking at the “Rayyithunnaa Eku Kuriah - Hafthaa 104” ceremony at the Social Center on Monday night, held to mark the government’s two-year anniversary, the president said more than 200 projects have been awarded to the private sector. He remarked that some individuals are losing sleep over these awards.
He said certain parties are uneasy about the public receiving a project and expressed displeasure that projects are immediately reported to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as soon as they are signed. He added that even after resolving the Fuvahmulah water crisis and restoring water supply, the matter was still taken to court.
The president noted that infrastructural development remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He said the list of completed works in this area is extensive and that infrastructural projects are advancing rapidly across all ministries.
He stated that these projects are progressing at a very fast pace, including harbor construction, land reclamation, coastal protection, channel dredging, and road construction.
The issue of the government distributing projects to preferred parties has now been submitted to both the ACC and the Prosecutor General’s Office. The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested an investigation into the matter and a measure to halt the disbursement of advance payments.
