Laiba wins bronze at YONEX Polish int’l festival

Young Maldivian athlete Laiba “Elly” Ahmed Mahloof has won bronze at the YONEX Polish International Festival 2024.
Laiba won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event at the tournament held in Bialystok, Poland.
Her pair partner in the event was Julius Surgela from Lithuania.
In the Mixed Doubles semi-final, Laiba and Surgela’s pair competed against Taski and Claudia from Poland.
In the semi-final match, Taski and Claudia's pair won against Laiba’s pair in straight sets.
The first set was 21-11 and the second set was 21-07. Laiba played a total of 10 matches in various events of the tournament. Out of these, Laiba won seven matches.
Laiba has participated in several badminton tournaments on the Badminton Europe calendar and has won a total of nine medals this year.
These include two silver medals and seven bronze medals.
Laiba noted that the YONEX tournament is her last international tournament in this year's badminton calendar.
While Laiba has been enjoying success in international tournaments, she has expressed her hope of continuing competing next year and achieve even greater success.
