Maldives team of male athletes has won bronze medal in the ongoing South Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2018.

Maldives team had won the bronze medal after coming in third in the 100 meter run of the championship in which India had won First, with Pakistan coming in second.

While Maldives came third in the run, Sri Lanka's runner who was leading the run as the race kick started had dropped his baton, leading to the team's disqualification.

Mohamed Naail, expectant runner from Maldives team had competed in the 400 meter run of the finals and come fifth, having finished within 48.67 seconds.

Naail had reached the finals of the 400 meter run after coming in second in Heat 2 of the championship, having finished the race in 49.62 seconds.

Sri Lankan athletes had taken the winning medals of all the final rounds in the event.

Mohamed Naail, who is studying in the Republic of Botswana under a scholarship by the Maldives Olympic Committee, is the most expectant athlete representing Maldives.

While he holds many records under several junior categories, he had broken the record for Maldives in the 400 meter run of IAAF World Indoor Championships 2018 held in London, England this year.

Along with Naail, athlete Ahmed Ali and Vishan Ibrahim had also competed in Heat 1 and 2 of the 400 and 100 meter run, however had not qualified for the finals.
