A man arrested with a large stash of alcohol, has been remanded.

The man was arrested with more than 100 bottles of alcohol, stashed inside a car in the capital city’s suburban extension, Hulhumalé.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) noted that officers patrolling the streets of the suburbs on August 31, stopped a car on Nirolhu Magu and searched the vehicle.

The officers are to have found 168 bottles of alcohol inside the vehicle.

The driver of the car, identified as Ghazi Salahuddin, was arrested in connection with the case.

The man is a 44-year-old Bangladeshi national.

Upon being presented to the Hulhumalé Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the suspect was remanded for a period of 15 days.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
