Vice President Faisal Naseem has urged officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to continue their efforts to ensure public safety and security.

The vice president made these remarks while speaking during a meeting held with frontline police officers working in the Greater Malé Region on Thursday.

As such, taking the podium at the event, VP Naseem urged the police institution to continue to enhance their efforts to maintain the public's safety and security throughout the next presidential term.

Shedding light on the significant progress the police institution has made over the past five years despite the many challenges facing it, VP Naseem highlighted that the launching of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement mirrored this progress, as well as the numerous efforts made to further the development of police services in this regard.

VP Naseem went on to applaud the police institution for its efforts to ensure public safety and security so far, particularly their proactive involvement during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Encouraging the police institution to continue carrying out their efforts to address domestic issues, VP Naseem also pushed to actively address issues related to marine transport, road safety and security, work environments, and drug abuse.

Noting the efforts underway to develop Kalhaidhoo island in Laamu atoll as a rehabilitation island, the vice president shed light on the incumbent administration’s holistic approach on substance abuse and addiction.

Before concluding his speech, the vice president applauded the police institution for its efforts to increase awareness, guarantee public safety and security, and to ensure a secure society.
