The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has cracked down on a drug network of expatriates.
The Criminal Court has since ordered to remand the six expatriates, arrested in connection with the case.
All six expatriates arrested in connection with the case are Bangladeshi nationals.
They have been remanded for a period of 15 days, upon being presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing.
The suspects in question, have been residing in the Maldives in violation of immigration laws and were detained for hiding from the authorities, without appearing before the court.
The remand period of the suspects will expire on July 8.
According to the court order, they have received enough evidence to prove the allegations made against them.
The suspects are accused of using, transporting, and trafficking drugs as well as the illegal smuggling of alcohol into the country.
According to a statement filed by a police officer, bottles containing suspected alcohol as well as narcotics, were discovered from the rooms the expatriates were living in. It has been revealed that the pills officers found in these rooms, are illegal narcotics.
