The Harbor Development project site of Kanduoiygiri island of Male' atoll is well underway, says Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
MTCC mobilized the project site on 13 November, 2022.
The company states that 59 percent of the project has been completed. As such, they have completed the construction of revetment.
The project of renovating and developing the harbor of Kanduoiygiri island was handed over to MTCC by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture on May 18, 2022.
The Ministry states that the project was contracted to MTCC as part of the project to develop fisheries infrastructure with the assistance of the Saudi Fund for development aid. The value of the project is MVR 36.13 million.
Fisheries Ministry states that the harbor of Kanduoiygiri will be relocated to the west side of the harbor and that the entrance to the port will be expanded. Ministry highlights that the fishermen will be able to use the harbor without any difficulties in all weather conditions with the new developments.
The project was contracted to be completed within 414 days.
Scope of works of the project include, harbor dredging operations of 10,000cbm, channel dredging operations of 10,000cbm, construction of a 125m quay wall, a 265m breakwater and a 63m revetment.
MTCC will also be doing installation work of harbor pavement, harbor lights and navigational lights.
Once the harbor development is completed, fishermen will be able to access water, ice, and diesel, with less hassle.
