Presidential Medal awarded to five, seven receive Presidential Ribbon
The "Commemorative Coin," honoring the 90th anniversary of the police service was also unveiled
Under the island nation's first constitution, the police institution was established on 29 March 1933
MPS was separated from the military and established as a civil service on 1 September 2004

The Presidential Medals and Presidential Ribbons have been awarded.

On Saturday evening, the grand celebration to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of MPS was held at the Hulhumalé Synthetic Track.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih awarded the Presidential Medal and Presidential Ribbon to commendable officers of the police institution during Saturday’s ceremony.

Recipients of the Presidential Medal include Assistant Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Chief Superintendent of Police Hussain Rasheed, Chief Superintendent of Police Moosa Ali, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Dawood and Chief Inspector of Police Ali Ahmed.

Further, the Presidential Ribbon was conferred to Chief Inspector of Police Ibrahim Zahir, Chief Inspector of Police Abdul Matheen Abdul Kareem, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Shareef, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz, Chief Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Adnan Anees, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Athif and Chief Inspector of Police Abdulla Rasheed.

The President’s Color Medal was also presented to police officers during Saturday’s ceremony, where the "Commemorative Coin," honoring the 90th anniversary of the police service was also unveiled.

Saturday’s ceremony also saw Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla conferring the Pride and Merit Awards to the seven exemplary officers who according to MPS, have made the institution proud with their “outstanding” accomplishments.

The seven officers who received the Pride and Merit Awards are Sub-Inspector of Police Mohamed Moosa, Sub-Inspector of Police Hassan Masroor, Sub-Inspector of Police Mohamed Ziyau, Senior Sergeant Shuzail Mohamed, Sergeant Ahmed Aalam, Sergeant Abdulla Shahuneez and Intelligence Analyst Grade 3 Haleemath Rasheeda.

Further, Minister Imran also awarded plaques of appreciation to officials in honor of their sincere services rendered to MPS for more than 40 years. As such, the plaques of appreciation for serving in MPS more than 40 years were presented to Deputy Commissioner of Police (retired) Abdul Shakoor Abdulla who served at MPS for 43 years and two months, Chief Superintendent of Police (retired) Ibrahim Khaleel who served for 43 years and eight months and Chief Inspector of Police (Retired) Abdul Samad Ismail who served for 40 years.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Retired) Hussain Shakir was also honored for his service to the country with dedication and distinction for an incredible 45 years and six months.

The ceremony was attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Cabinet Ministers, and senior officials from the Maldives National Defense Force and MPS.
